Years ago, I went to a yoga class (at the same studio I’m teaching at now) during a period of my life that felt like an emotional roller coaster. While the teacher was getting us centered, she said, “your thoughts are like clouds just passing through; you are not your thoughts; you are the blue sky behind them.” (This is based on a quote from Ram Dass.) That day it was exactly the message I needed to hear and gave me so much clarity and peace. I learned not to hold on too tightly to any thought and to fall into the space behind them.
